"In the fall of 2023, the beach at Gulfport, Mississippi was alive with thousands of black skimmers. I caught them flocking beneath a cloudy afternoon sky, their silhouettes slicing through the gray like living brushstrokes.

"The sky is a canvas of soft, layered grays—clouds thick and mottled, like brushed charcoal. Against this muted backdrop, a flock of black skimmers fills the frame in mid-flight. Their silhouettes are sharp and angular, wings outstretched in various positions: some gliding, some banking, some caught mid-flap. The birds are scattered yet cohesive, like musical notes flung across a staff of sky. Each skimmer is a dark slash against the light, their long wings and forked tails giving them a sleek, almost calligraphic presence. The flock moves as if stirred by an unseen rhythm, a choreography of instinct and wind. Below them, faint silhouettes of street lamps and poles rise like quiet sentinels—suggesting an urban or coastal edge, where nature and infrastructure meet without speaking. Ashes of the Afternoon

This photograph captures the sunset to the west of my home. Silhouetted treetops line the bottom of the frame, quiet and dark. Above them, the sky ignites—scattered clouds drift at varying heights, catching the light. The colors shift upward: yellow near the horizon, fading into pale blue overhead. The clouds themselves wear a palette of gray, gold, orange, and deep red, each one lit differently by the sun’s retreat.

I took the big rig up to Siblyback lake today, Sony A7R IVA + Sony FE 400-800mm to capture some wildlife shots.

I just about managed to dodge the rain until I was on the way back ! It was definitely a good test for the Sony A7R IVA weather sealing.

I saw so many different types of birds today including Herons, Canadian Geese, Robins, Ducks, Swallows and Egrets to name a few.

I hope you enjoy the photos.
