You are owed more "doing things other than work tasks in work time" than you'll ever be able to cash in. We all are.
I have discussed with my wife that I'm going to buy a bicycle. Today she asked if I'm going to buy the bicycle. I have already bought the bicycle. I have spent twice as much on the bicycle as I told her I was going to. I am working on a strategy to manage this situation.
