I for my part rather tend to be spectator/innocent bystander instead of any kind of acting figure.

Maybe it helps to recognize the axe-swinging white-power dude as a threat for your existence to change the perspective from a bystanding NPC to an acting figure?
If not, maybe remembering that those being neutral in situations of injustice have chosen the side of the oppressor is a first step to adjust your self-attributed sense for innocence?
