Stupidity and the Progress of Human Civilization

@existentialcomics as an aside, while intentional fermentation (beer, wine, bread etc) happened only a few thousand years ago, we started eating fermented foods even before we were human beings
@existentialcomics and so Hegel was made aware of the world-soul on horseback
Idk... There might be some logical progression from "I need to move my horses to that town over there", later "I might as well let the horse carry my things" to "maybe it might carry me instead of only my wares?"
That makes it way less stupid.

@existentialcomics A character in one of Stanisław Lem's books (can't remember who or which book) suggested errecting a memorial for the unknown heroes who tried new foods because several of them must've paid with their lives for trying a new mushroom or some unknown berries. They were brave, they were idiots, their stupidity pushed humanity forward.
@existentialcomics Reminds me of Popper's critique of Hegel, "What is dialectic?" (first published in 1940). Popper says progress comes from trial and error, which is aided by the spirit of contradiction (but only because we want to eliminate contradictions).
@existentialcomics "What if I deliberately set my food on fire?" Absolute morons.
@existentialcomics "Sometimes it takes a fool to do something, that's why it's cool" #FLCL
