Wow, this campaign website against Google's plan to kick out XSLT is a thing of beauty.

@johl I still don't get that "they want to kill XSL, so they must hate RSS!"-take

Yes, some people generated xhtml-views from RSS/Atom (or the other way, feeds from XHTML) by writing XSLT?

But that's like only one application and not even a good one? You can just have your software generate both with individual templates? That's probably the way more common way to do that? Why would you even…?

It's a weird edge case at best?

@dat @johl If I'm being generous, my take is that they think RSS is a good standard that needs all the help it can get (and hasn't fallen by the wayside for the application of news aggregation for a laundry list of reasons best read while playing the Nintendo Mii Creator theme in the background), and that chopping XSLT native rendering from the browser harms that goal.

... If I'm not being generous, they're cantankerous, terrified of returning to the bad old days of Microsoft controlling the web by monopoly, and grasping at straws to generalize a pretty decent engineering decision into a slippery-slope argument to serve those ends.

@dat @johl

That was what made me think that it's a joke and that they're poking fun at spurious arguments that news about two related technologies implies a greater conspiracy. Especially the point about how killing Reader was close in time to first trying to deprecate XSLT.
