I returned to #eos form #iodeos. The aurora was only usebke with spoofing. Works fine in e/os. Now android auto ist not working. Hope they will fix it for the #fairphone 5. Miss the trebuchet launcher. Bliss is simple, but you can't hide apps @gael: otherwise .... Well done
@inlovewithpda why do you prefer eos to iode?
@synapsenkitzler recently had problems with the aurora store. Also wanted the fairphone camera app back
@inlovewithpda
in this test/comparison of custom roms (german) iode is more recommended than eos cause of update intervals. (and grapheneos is highly recommended)

@synapsenkitzler yes, but eos is currently quite recent. I had booth. Still prefer iode, but the aurora stuff was so annoying. And the camera app
@synapsenkitzler @inlovewithpda
FFS, they are NOT custom ROM's.
ROM's are a specific type of memory semiconductor dating back to the 1980's.
It stands for Read Only Memory.
As in, ROM, PROM, EPROM and EEPROM.
You are talking about Custom Operating Systems.
@avoca @synapsenkitzler yeay, but you know what i mean.
@inlovewithpda @synapsenkitzler
Not the point really, is it.
By your logic Linux is a Custom ROM.
Actually, anything that can trace its roots to Unix is a Custom ROM.
Old timer's like me would appreciate it if you used the correct terminology.
@avoca @synapsenkitzler well, then a lot oft people use the wrong term. That is the wonderfull thing about language ... It evolves :)
@inlovewithpda @synapsenkitzler
This nothing to do with evolving language, its pure laziness.
It's pretty close to the original meaning. Close enough!
(Linux on x86 is different, because you don't write a single file 1:1 but execute complex setup procedures AND it's rarely mounted RO)

@dat @inlovewithpda @synapsenkitzler
Nice try...
The original use for PROM's was to store the system BIOS, hence Programmable Read Only Memory.
These were SO Read Only, once programmed, you had use a UV light to erase them, or leave them in the sun for a few days.
The term ROM refers to the device, not the code written to it.
That is simply a Custom OS.
@avoca @dat @inlovewithpda
I don't understand this discussion. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_custom_Android_distributions
Please don't mention @ me here any more. Thank you.
