A Drink Alone

A young woman with spiky hair and blue streaks, wearing a yellow leather jacket with fictive symbols on it, is having a drink alone at a bar. She is meditating. A retro arcade machine in the background and the city through the bay window. A customer in the background is a cyborg petting a cat.

@davidrevoy
Very much like the Bride... Kill Bill. ❤️

@davidrevoy Salut David. Tu as dit que tu vas arrêter avec pepper&carrot. Si tu vas developper une nouvelle série de bd. Je trouve que le thème de cyberpunk manque des histoires positives et moins dystopiques.

Le dessin me plaît.

@davidrevoy Beautifully done!

But that's a tiny drink

@davidrevoy beautiful 🤩

@davidrevoy it cant be

@davidrevoy
"meditating" is a word for having one or two too many 😁

@davidrevoy This captures my emotions completely from 1997-2025. 👏

@davidrevoy well that was unexpected 😅

@davidrevoy Simply stunning, and the fact that I know that coming from you isn't AI generated is just *chef's kiss*

@davidrevoy Is this the character from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnnbP7pCIvQ or an OC? The jacket also reminds be of David's (Mom's) jacket.

Either way, you brought joy to the world.

I think it's time for them to finish that shot, and get into sniping position to take the shot they were hired for. :)

@BoydStephenSmithJr Thank you, it's one of my OC. I never played the game Cyberpunk. One thing I dislike about it (and all its derivatives) is how it appropriated the whole genre 'cyberpunk' as a franchise name. It really makes impossible now to search for retro 80s or 90s cyberpunk illustration before or anything from this genre before that game.
One day, I'll have to play it, to know at least when I design something if I don't reinvent a design someone else made (and much more popular).

@davidrevoy Love this ❤️

@davidrevoy
J'adore cette image.
Merci !

@davidrevoy Well, Cyberpunk 2020 (the table-top RPG) was my first introduction to the term, so I don't mind as much.

(I never played it, but I played Shadowrun which had some community overlap.)

The Edgerunners Netflix series (and that music video) are worth a watch, even if they are strongly tied to the game from CD Project Red, and not just cyberpunk in general.

@BoydStephenSmithJr I entered the genre with BladeRunner the movie as a young kid (diffused on TV), then playing Syndicate (DOS/Win95), then yes: ShadowRun table top RPG. I loved the game, played maybe three times, no huge campaign unfortunately (we quickly moved to "In Nomine Satanis/Magna Veritas" a French RPG and it was too much fun to stop https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_Nomine_Satanis/Magna_Veritas , very "Constantine" ).
I also like to think FF7 Midgard area as in my cyberpunk inspirations 💙

@davidrevoy @spacefox Çe dessin me rappelle de "Tears in rain" de Blade Runner.

Est-ce que tu as lu "Vernor Vinge -True Names"?

Me plaît aussi la formule de SpaceFox.

@Johns_priv Thank you, I'll post later the timelapse to leave no doubt about it.

Yes, it's one of my OC and I have her in mind since more than a decade for a novel I wrote. I made many attempts in the past and sketches to depict her. My skill nowadays allows me to be a bit more closer to what I have in mind, but I still think something is a bit off, and not totally as I imagine her. I'll keep working on this character. One day she'll be ready for the graphic novel 😊

The electron donor OC, 3 sketches on sketchbook, speedpainting in middle and an illustration in 2010. The design are very variable compared to the 2025 version.

@spacefox

@Stomata unexpected? As in making an illustration for once in cyberpunk genre? True, that's rare coming from my usual production.

@davidrevoy Pepper in the modern era 😌

@davidrevoy It reminds me of some character but I can't put my finger on it.
I'm getting a bit of Kaneda (Akira anime movie) with the melancholy of a cyberpunk character and the yellow jacket I'm guessing a homage to Kill Bill.

I love it :D

@davidrevoy @spacefox

Oui la role de Rick Deckard est très macho. 😢 Je detèste comment il traîte Rachael Tyrell.

@Johns_priv Thank you. Same, the more I flesh out this character, the more I feel she has something I already saw somewhere. I'll find it. Maybe from Masamune Shirow, Apple Seed, Ghost in the Shell, etc.

@Digitual it can't be what? 😅

@slothrop Yes, tiny, must be very concentrated. Also, I just saw I instinctively painted the glass half full. Or half empty. My brain probably had a philosophical debate at this time int he background.

@davidrevoy tuxracer arcade cab huh, that can be arranged

@hj We need a TUXArcade one with TuxRacer, TuxKart and Super Tux. blobaww 🕹️

@davidrevoy that looks amazing!!

@davidrevoy that also can be arranged. Local arcade owner lets me use a cab with a PC running Bazzite in it, i can put literally anything (that can run on an i5) on it.

@hj Oh nice! Playing TuxRacer with arcade control must be super fun.

@davidrevoy When a beatiful girl like this sits alone in a bar)

@davidrevoy "What a week..." - "It's Tuesday...."

@Digitual 😅 ha! I understand now.

@ij Perfect 👍

@wowaname 💜 Xonotic. I used to play for years on Nexuiz servers for years in a clan with competition and all. I stopped before it transformed fully into Xonotic. I wonder if some of my small graphic contribution are still part of it (it was under a nickname). I'll check 😺

@hj

@davidrevoy well i wanted to say its kinda rare from you.

@davidrevoy @slothrop Maybe you only get a few fingers worth whenever you buy a shot, and she simply has not started yet 😄

Perhaps it's something very expensive in larger quantities, so she only gets it on rare occasions, where just the smell alone sets the mood, and she drinks it in one gulp once she's done meditating? 🤔

@sindarina @slothrop Haha, that remind me the weekly glass of dark rhum ritual I had with a friend at university. It was probably only 5€ but for us at that time it was like a treasure. The glass probably lasted for one hour, sipping it small bit by small bit while smoking. 😅

@davidrevoy @hj as long as we have a xonotic cabinet in the other corner

@wowaname @davidrevoy i have a prototype control panel for playing FPSes on a real (modern) arcade cab, it's heavily inspired by quake arcade cab. Dunno how playable it would be for xonotic but anything with simple control scheme like quake and doom should be good enough (except for weapon switch maybe)

@hj @wowaname Oh oh, aiming with a trackball? If I saw an arcade machine with that, I would certainly try it out of curiosity for sure.

@davidrevoy @hj @wowaname works okay-ish

played a couple rounds UT2K4 on mine

not good enough for decent scores, but way better than touchpad or gamepad

Painted on Debian KDE 12 stable, Krita, no reference because I had the image in mind. It's an OC, for a one-shot graphic novel I started writing in 2010, The Electron Donor, and I make progress here and there on the pre-production, especially when I want to paint cyberpunk genre (rare).

@davidrevoy okeucébo 🤩

@davidrevoy

Cheers!

(Lovely image, great work on that.)

@jrconlin Haha, well observed. This one defies gravity for sure. Now I can't unsee it 😅

@slothrop

@davidrevoy that is just amazing to see. I love all the little corrections and adjustments at the end

@davidrevoy

REALLY enjoyed seeing the progression of this piece!

Love the result!

@davidrevoy Awesome. How much time it took?

@emilion Around 6h I think.

@davidrevoy
I'll be honest.. I saw the post with the still image, and I thought it was AI generated, and I scrolled hurriedly past.

But this... This is amazing!

Thanks for that.

Thank you.

@xdydx Thank you for your honesty. Yes, it's a difficult time for digital painters. Thank you for your words.

@davidrevoy I bet that drink kicks ass.

@davidrevoy this is gorgeous !!

@davidrevoy I really like this one. It's really impressive how you had the pose and facial expression locked in instantly.

@davidrevoy Pfffahahaaha At... the exact.. midpoint... I'M NOT ALONE!

How to draw a person:
1. Draw a head.
2. Draw a body.
3. Resize the head (with the scale tool).

@FrankHghTwr All...the...time. Even if I know my proportions. It's a curse! 🤣

@davidrevoy

Yeah, with nobody else
You know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

@davidrevoy
Wow just wow.

@davidrevoy

Has that "Captain, it's Wednesday!" vibe.

@davidrevoy Great picture and to see the individual steps is amazing! I'm curious, how much time did you put into the drawing?

@davidrevoy "A customer in the background is a cyborg petting a cat." - I love it 😊

@davidrevoy

She's just like me

@davidrevoy she also reminds me a little bit of Ramona Flowers

@davidrevoy @Johns_priv "One day she'll be ready for the graphic novel" was what I was hoping to read from you in this thread! heart_fire Love that picture and would like to know more about that character.

@davidrevoy new transition goal just dropped 😳

@stefanfrede Thank you very much! About 6 hours, but probably cut over three sessions. I could have saved the last 2h if I had had a better base sketch of her face design to begin with. Final tweaks and paint-over easily took 1/3 of the time.

@bobjonkman Hehe, true.

− What a year, huh.
− But, it's only May...

@davidrevoy @BoydStephenSmithJr

Yeah, cyberpunk, to me, is very much an 80's and 90's thing with Willaim Gibson and Bruce Sterling writing on the subjects, among many others. As well as some movies and tv shows, Shadowrun, GITS, and so much more.

Of course, Gibson and others annouced the genre dead in the late 90's because real world tech exceeded what they wrote about in many ways. So Cyberpunk the game is almost retrofutureist nostalgic and yet dominates the genre.

Sigh.

@davidrevoy ... Is that a Tuxcart machine in the background? Baller

@TeflonTrout Yes, TuxKart or TuxRacer, or maybe an all in one Tux machine playing both, and Super Tux too. 🐧

@davidrevoy @breadly I don't mind drinking alone but don't put the umbrella in my drink and I'm chaos incarnated...
