If services start getting hit with big price increases, we can kiss the economy goodbye.

A tweet by Justin Wolfers (@JustinWolfers
) reads: "If Trump is serious about tariffs on movies, it's a very dangerous escalation. Tariffs have not traditionally been applied to services, and the United States is a massive net exporter of services. We would be extremely vulnerable to any service-based retaliation."

…as a non-american, I'd actually want that.

There's not many american physical products that are a problem for me. But there's tons of services I'd love to get rid off.

@georgetakei
If Europe places a tariff on MS 365 or Google Docs, for example...

@georgetakei For Trump those tariffs are more about blocking content that is unwelcome for a fascist. And we've already seen that hurting the economy is part of his goals.

@georgetakei What? You can't already?

@georgetakei I would like to see "proof" of USA being a net exporter of services. I have trouble believing that this is true.

@georgetakei I am not sure if you realized this, but tRUmp severly hurt the defence and the software sector.

Just the possibility that either weapon systems of NATO partners might be disabled from afar lead to the consequential understanding that this might be true for digital infrastructures.

After Trump I the EU was worried but could be schmused by Biden, now things are set in motion, you can find more here:

@georgetakei Bring it. IMO it shouldn't be legal for my government so have data on a service run by a foreing entity anyway, bring on digital sovereignty!

@georgetakei Nest step for the EU: 100% tariffs on all streaming services. And after that cloud providers. Or we could just start selling US bonds. Trump has no cards…

Starting to worry now?

We've looked for tech alternatives long before the tarrifs

Your president is proudly pissing on agreements about European national security, so we have to assume he's already milking your clouds for our "well protected" data

He burned our remaining trust by remote deactivating our F16 jets, blocking one of us from defending against Russian invaders

His tariffs will hurt you for a while, but treason hurts for generations

We'll do just fine without you though

Good luck

@georgetakei Maybe he's secretly trying to end Hollywood to punish California for being so sunny
