Love everything about working from home bar the unspoken expectation I, as the female partner, spend my breaks doing housework or other household admin. That bit is fucking shit & feels like a backwards move for equality in the workplace.

then again that doesn't change if the male partner stays home?

The impulse "you're home anyway, you unload the dishwasher and start laundry" is kinda obvious. But otoh you do tend to have more time due to less commute.

@fesshole

I think thats maybe something you have to raise with your partner rather than a problem with WFH itself.

@fesshole it's unspoken. Are you sure it's real? Maybe it's just in your head?
Use your breaks for rest and recharge. Expectations be damned.

@fesshole expectation from whom? your partner? that sounds more like the problem

@fesshole It’s not just an expectation for the female partner.

IF I (a dude) don’t unload/reload the dishwasher during a 12-hour work marathon where I *forgot to eat lunch* I get the “Ugh! The dishes are clean!” from the guy who went to a massage, took 3 1-hour phone meetings, had lunch with a board member and spent half an hour playing at the dog park then watched 3 episodes of Will and Grace before I pushed the keyboard away.

It’s not necessarily gender-based. I believe it’s location-based.

@fesshole We still have a long way to go to become a fair society. To those saying this is down to your partner: no, it’s not, it’s down to the way girls are treated from when they are tiny, the expectations are baked in at a very early age and constantly reinforced. As partners, we do have a responsibility to try and address this, but the bias is systemic.

@fesshole That's total crap. Responsibilities should be shared equally.
