I bought an expensive "tactical" watch because the protagonist of a series of books I enjoy wears one. Fucking waste of money. It's ugly and doesn't tell time any better than the cheap Casio F91W I also use.

@fesshole Some lessons in life come at a price.

@fesshole That is what is called 'gullible'.

@fesshole Casio F91W with a nylon strap is so light you forget you're wearing it

@fesshole the F91W is famously the "al-Qaeda watch". If I wanted a watch that was robust and Just Fucking Works I'd take their recommendation over that of literally anyone who uses the word "tactical" for normal everyday things. See also the , vehicle of choice of .

Spoof advert for the Toyota Hilux pickup truck - tag line "The Evolution of Revolution". Drawings of eight different models of Hilux are shown all fitted with big heavy weaponry and some decorated with Arab revolutionary/insurgent insignia and flags. Text below reads "Whether you're planning a spontaneous uprising, open-ended jihad or a brutal insurrection, the Toyota Hilux is the number one choice of madcap technical for self-respecting insurgents across the globe. Compatible with all major lines of looted weaponry and with decades of proud service behind it, make sure your roving gangs of armed banditry ride to battle in style. Warranty may be voided by the addition of calibres in excess of 23mm and the application of air-to-ground rocket pods is not recommended by Toyota Motors PLC".

The Hilux is so good at this job that there's a whole war named after it - the Toyota War, in which Chadian forces using a mixture of Toyota Land Cruisers and Hiluxes defeated much larger and ostensibly better equipped Libyan forces.

how many F91W could you buy for replacement, until you've reached half the price of the more expensive one?

(and F91W are pretty solid to begin with - getting those damaged is hard work)
