I'm 52 years old and have been a gamer since a kid. However, I'm not very good. I play every game I buy on easy mode because my reactions are shit. And I want to get value for my money without being put off by dying every five minutes.

One of the greatest innovations in games in the past two decades is being able to change difficulty without restarting the entire game from the beginning.

Boss fight got you beaten? Options > Game > Difficulty > Story Mode

@fesshole same, with added corollary: if a game does end up being too difficult or just tedious for me (find it with many bullet-hell or frenetic action/platformer that requires super-precise control mastery) and there's no way to tone down the difficulty, and i stop having fun ... i ruthlessly just stop playing and uninstall it. no time for "git gud" bullshit these days ...

@fesshole Dude. I was there in the 70s and 80s when every video game was stupidly hard. It’s ok to enjoy easy mode.

@fesshole Waaaay back in the day, I made a bunch of extra levels for Command & Conquer which got published. Whenever I played them online I would get smoked despite knowing where all the hidden crates, enemy paths and reinforcements were. I knew then I would never be a competitive gamer. Easy mode all the way.

As everyone has said play your games the way you find them enjoyable. I mostly game for fun or the story. Dying endlessly is not a fun experience.

Games are to be enjoyed. For single player it does not matter if you play on easy or on master mode, with safe state, replays or cheats. They must be fun.
