The only reason I watch TV is that it's something my husband and I do together. Without it, he'd just be in a video game black hole and my nose would be stuck in a book.

I hear that a lot…

but then it's not really something people do "together", more like… "both are around". Watching stuff can be some social activity of course… but it rarely is.

there's even people who react anoyed if other people comment on things shown on TV.

@dat @fesshole But with one person playing a game and the other reading a book, you *can't*. No chance of shared experience.

only that imho there might be better shared hobbies

but we're all too lazy/tired for that and resort to excuses instead

Quite theoretically, you could indeed. Except if they could talk together, then that would have solved the problem in a much nicer way than sitting glued to the idiot box.
