Every government that uses #Signal should be forced to donate at least $1M per year to the foundation. Triple that amount when they accidentally invite journalists to top secret groups. :)
@jwildeboer Luckily, European governments support Matrix where they do not have to communicate through american servers.
@astro From my contacts in Brussels and EU governments I can assure you that Signal is also being used frequently and sometimes the only allowed messaging app for official devices. For good reasons.
@jwildeboer Ouch!
@astro I would definitely put more trust in Signal than in random matrix servers run by admins who I must trust as the technology itself is not as secure as signal. You will vehemently disagree, I guess. That’s fine but won’t change my mind.
@jwildeboer I don't use "random" servers. Noone should!
when instead they should have the capacity to supply their own infrastructure?
I mean… if not EU/governments, then who?

@astro @jwildeboer
Swedish army uses signal both for internal and external communication: https://cornucopia.se/2025/02/forsvarsmakten-infor-krav-pa-signal-for-samtal-och-meddelanden/
@sa7dse There are plenty of stories about government use of XMPP and Matrix
@sa7dse FYI, US military strategy is now disseminated over Signal, too 😂 https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:xs4iamrezoc5q7p5ei6lrgnn/post/3ll55gxd6ls2e
@astro Yes, i read the story.
But i rather have them use a E2EE messenger that can also communicate with external parties, than something where E2EE is technically possible with the right client and as long as the user does not mess up and if the moon and jupiter align in just about the right way.😂
They still should not invite strangers/journalists or other 3rd parties to those chats though.
