imagine a starfleet engineer doing a youtube retro-tech show and they're like "now if you're playing with an old Hermes-class it's vitally important you get out the secondary plasma coupling IMMEDIATELY. They're using the old Vartarian manifolds, which WILL leak and you'll get subspace compaction in your warp core, and that'll destroy all the stembolts and you just cannot get pre-2352 stembolts anymore."
@foone But are the stembolts self-sealing?
@foone
It also can cause sinusoidal depleneration of the hydrocoptic marzelvanes, and I don't have to tell you what a huge problem that can be.
@foone i mean, @steveshives could pull this off, if anyone could
"when I was getting the USS Revere flight ready for the fleet museum, I had to trade a Mark 5 Interphasic scanner AND half a dozen duonetic couplers with a Lissepian engineer out by the Typhon Expanse. The only other place I could find any was on subspacebay and I'm not paying 5 bars of gold-pressed latinum for two stembolts"
@foone Miranda-class is the Dell OEM of starships.
@simonbp that was the big improvement in 2352! They figured out how to make self-sealing stembolts, and now we don't have to send ensigns out in EVA suits to manually seal all the stembolts.
But the pre-2352 ships aren't compatible with the modern self-sealing ones.
It's all open sourced parts and you just ask the replicator to make you the parts
star trek is the GOOD future!
(yeah, maybe not all recent star trek, but who'd watch that now?)

@foone That's a lot of Yamok Sauce!
@foone "Lots of people just replicate these things, but it just doesn't feel the same."
@foone I've never been so mad that something in a shitpost didn't actually exist
@foone
Ok real talk, I would watch the HELL out of this channel. I already adore Steve Shives' YouTube channel of Starfleet jobs.
@foone even in a post scarcity society these capitalists will find a way to enable planned obsolescence
@foone Engineer frantically fast-forwarding through this show on their communicator while manifolds are leaking onto their boots
@foone and thousands of comments read that you can just reform then by some ritual 😸🤪
@atkelar god, star trek's Fediverse unsolicited technically advice would be killer.
You talk about how your warp core was ejected and your ship is limping home at impulse and mscott@enterprise.ship drops a whole wall of text about how you could get warp 2.3 by running the impulse plasma through the deflector's recirculation buffers and intermixing it through the food dispensers
@foone I can hear this post in Chief O’Brien’s voice
@foone I heard all of this in Chief Miles O'Brian's voice and I both love and hate it.
@itspomf O'Brien is the sort of mood you'd want to hit for maximum amusement. Smart, capable, but just so, so tired.
@foone truly an inspiration to us all.
