Husband and I got married quietly 2 years ago. Just us and 2 random people we asked to be witnesses. No fuss. No rings. No party. Just a civil ceremony and huge savings. Apparently we are bad people because we didn't spend money we don't have on a party we didn't want.
@fesshole
So you're sensible people. Where is the confession?
and how would they, if people who do it that way tend to be way less visible than people who do the opposite?

@fesshole We did the same, except we had rings but not even witnesses (not necessary here), just the 2 of us. That was almost 20 years ago & I've never had any regrets not having the family around. The 2 couples with the biggest parties I've been to both ended in an ugly divorce...
@fesshole This should be their fess, not yours.
@fesshole if people want to have a party they can plan and pay for it, and let you know when it is so you know which night to avoid going out.
@fesshole Did that with the Justice of the Peace 27 years ago. Amazing how people got mad.
@fesshole You are not bad people at all. It was your marriage, not theirs, and most of the entitled complaining assholes were probably just wanting free food and booze anyway.
@fesshole Best decision you ever made!
@fesshole It's your marriage, so focus on what matters to you. Let others get their own marriages. NTA.
@fesshole That's what we did. My sister was offended for years that she wasn't invited. But that's how we always wanted to get married. Quietly, just for us. That was in 2006.
