Capitalism can't solve climate change because publicly traded companies must satisfy their shareholders — typically institutional investors — resulting in a focus on maximizing short-term gains at the expense of long-term planning for both the company and the environment.

A professional portrait of Murray Auchincloss, CEO of BP, accompanied by a quote regarding the company's commitment to long-term shareholder value.

This is the end of bp. They will be bankrupt within 10 or 20 years.

No public money will be able to save them.

@davidho

The others are walking with full capacity into the other direction meanwhile.

Those, who went back even a single step, will have to catch up again. And this won't happen.

it COULD if you'd remove all those externalized costs

like making the manufacturer pay if they want to sell stuff that's bad for climate

thing is: this isn't happening and never will

it's not ONLY capitalism and greed that's at fault - but things that could correct the problems are broken too

TL/DR: having capitalism detoriate until large corps can buy legislation didn't help
