Civil servant here. I'm not quite sure why but I'm always slightly uncomfortable in the knowledge that Excel is used, in part, to work out the nation's budget. Excel! The same tool I use to track and grade my wanks.

like doing calculations/statistics utterly WRONG or silently rendering genes into month names
as long as you're doing your private quick&dirty spreadsheets it's kinda okay-ish
but don't do something important in Excel - ever!

Worked for a large retail manufacturer. Larger company would not invest in proper retail software for anything. Excel for everything.
All the errors you would expect, all the time. Sad. Inefficient. Unprofessional. Maddening.
