Setting Sun with stripes and sunspots.

Oct. 3, 2025. Wolverine Lake, .

Photograph of a large Sun at sunset with yellow and orange stripes from clouds and several small sunspots visible. The sun is setting into a treeline with a dark red sky behind.

How do I end up with hundreds and hundreds of photos of sunsets to sort through? Trying to catch the light, which is tricky when the Sun is setting and the light is constantly changing.

These two were taken just a few seconds apart. They are both 55mm, f/10, ISO 100. The first is 1/250 sec exposure, while the second is just slightly longer, 1/200 sec. But they end up with a very different mood and look.

Walking back through Edinburgh this evening, the sky was amazing.

1/2

A colour photograph of the sky taken in South Castle St in Edinburgh, looking north.

Silhouettes of buildings fill the bottom left quadrant and the right edge, with a silhouette of a statue on a column in the bottom centre.

The rest of the picture is occupied by the sky. There is a brightly illuminated cloud formation, with pink and orange hues, from the top left corner through the centre down to the bottom right. Other clouds are dark smudges to each side. The sky behind the clouds is dark blue at the top right to light blue at the bottom left. A colour photograph of the view north along North Castle St.

In the bottom left quadrant is the silhouette of a Georgian terrace going down the hill at a diagonal, from centre left to mirror bottom. At the bottom of the picture to the right the tops of trees can be seen, again in silhouette.

The rest of the image is occupied by the sky. There is a bright band of cloud diagonally from top left to bottom right. The cloud is illuminated, with pink and orange hues. Other clouds are dark grey. The sky behind is an intense dark blue. A colour photograph of the view west along George Street. At the bottom centre is the silhouette of the tower and dome of the West Register House. On either side are the silhouettes of Georgian terraces, riding from the bottom centre to the middle left and right respectively.

The rest of the image is filled with the sky. In the middle, stretching between the two terraces, are stripes of orange clouds. Above this the clouds are dark grey, with patches of orange-illuminated cloud and dark blue sky showing through from behind. A colour photograph of the view north along Hanover St.

In the bottom left quadrant is the silhouette of a Georgian terrace going down the hill at a diagonal, from centre left to mirror bottom. At the bottom right edge, the silhouette of the other side of the street can be seen.

The rest of the image is occupied by the sky. There is a band of cloud across the middle of the picture. The cloud is brilliantly illuminated, with pink and orange hues. Above it another band of pink cloud hangs. Other clouds are dark grey. The sky behind is an intense dark blue.

Wooly Green - I kind of see a giant green spider in there.

A photograph of a fallen tree in a forest, it's many branches covered in moss and old man's beard. The angle of the shot combined with the shape of the branches gives the impression of a giant, moss covered spider.

One photograph for both FotoVorschlag (Farbe Blau) and Doorsday: a rainy December morning in Chefchaouen, Morocco.

A street scene of houses and buildings on a rainy and overcast day. Everything is a shade of blue except some white window frames, terracotta steps, a black lamp and some other objects. Everything is wet so even the pavement looks blue in places.

A fantastic cascade of autumn colour from this Parthenocissus Quinquefolia (Virginia creeper)
!

A beautiful display of dark and light autumnal reds from this Parthenocissus Quinquefolia (Virginia creeper) adorning the side of a house. The tendrils hang down and have started spreading across the ground in front of the house. When the leaves have fallen, it is cut back to the level of the gate, from which it will regrow next year.

I only took one pic inside the Biblioteca Vasconcelos with my 'big' camera (the one 👆 ) was with my old phone (and is totally unedited). Was too amazed just looking all around and over (and just using my phone to take some pics).
What a !

Looking up at the multi storied shelving and frosted glass floors in the library. A person (left bottom of frame) is taking a picture with their phone of two people further away (bottome, right of frame).
