A rainy summer's night in Glasgow, Part II.

Blue-green neon lights are reflected in the rainwater pooled on the shiny surface of a black marble bench, while the out of focus paving stones in the background shimmer with pale blue light Golden light reflects on the rainwater around a circular iron street drain, making it look like it has been cast from precious metal The word EVERYMAN, written in red neon capitals, reflects in a puddle among cobbled stones in an alleyway, the letters are reversed and shimmering because of a light breeze rippling the surface of the water The metallic surface of a fairground ride reflects pink and blue neon lights in the background, along with the flame-like reflections from a neon advertising board in the foreground.

Messier 64

This dusty galaxy is also known as the "Black Eye" or "Evil Eye" galaxy.

Easily identified by the spectacular band of dark dust that partially obscures its bright core, Messier 64, or the Black Eye Galaxy, is characterized by its bizarre internal motion. The gas in the outer regions of this spiral galaxy is rotating in the opposite direction from the gas and stars in its inner regions. This strange behavior may be the result of a merger between M64 and a satellite galaxy over a billion years ago.

New stars are forming in the region where the oppositely rotating gases collide, are compressed, and then contract. Particularly noticeable in this stunning Hubble image of the galaxy’s core are recently formed hot, blue stars and pink clouds of glowing hydrogen gas that fluoresce when exposed to ultraviolet light from the newly-formed stars.

English astronomer Edward Pigott first spotted M64 in March of 1719, just 12 days before German astronomer Johann Elert Bode, and roughly a year before Charles Messier independently rediscovered it in March of 1780. The galaxy is located 17 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Coma Berenices. The best time of year to look for the Black Eye Galaxy is May. Its apparent magnitude of 9.8 requires a moderately sized telescope and dark sky site.

This image taken with the Hubble Space Telescope features NGC 4826, otherwise known as M64— a spiral galaxy located 17 million light-years away in the constellation of Coma Berenices (Berenice’s Hair). This galaxy is often referred to as the “Black Eye” or “Evil Eye” Galaxy because of the dark band of dust that sweeps across one side of its bright nucleus. M64 is known by astronomers for its strange internal motion.

The next few photos are from the Netherlands🇳🇱 and I’m so happy I got to spend my first trip with like-minded friends🥹
In just 6 days I saw and heard around 20 new species, such an unforgettable experience!

This gull photo was taken on our very first day, right in front of a stunning sunset. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better start to the trip.

Big thanks again to Achim, Noel and Marie for the amazing time – already looking forward to the next adventure!🐦🌅

🇺🇸: The Herring Gull (Larus argentatus) is a large species of gull in the family Laridae. It typically measures 55 to 67 centimeters in body length, with a wingspan of 130 to 150 centimeters, and weighs around 750 to 1,500 grams. Its range extends along the coasts of Europe and northern Asia. In Central Europe, it is especially common along the North Sea and Baltic Sea, but also found inland near large lakes and rivers. They are omnivorous and highly adaptable, feeding on fish, waste, carrion, and small animals.

We had a storm sneak around us this afternoon. The light chasing it away was quite nice.

@sonorov a camera made more for looking nice than for taking nice looking images

I want to shoot something like this, but I'm not sure if I can capture what I want, a mature and seductive temperament

A morning walk around the cathedral in Cologne. I really like to frame my subjects, and the reflections from the low morning sun make it even more interesting for me.
