Life on the Mudflats "This image beautifully captures the lively scene of three dunlins (Calidris alpina) on mudflats at low tide, gathered around a shimmering tidal pool. The dunlin on the right is mid-flight, its wings spread wide, displaying delicate feather patterns, while its legs dangle slightly beneath it. The middle dunlin is in motion, its tiny legs kicking up droplets as it runs through the water, creating gentle ripples in the pool. On the left, a third dunlin stands still, balancing gracefully on one leg, its beak tucked back into its wing as it nestles in for warmth, a striking contrast to the action unfolding nearby. The tidal pool itself acts like a mirror, capturing fleeting reflections of each bird. The dunlin in flight has its distorted reflection rippling beneath it, a faint echo of its wings touching the surface.
