Looking Out to Sea
A couple of years ago, I captured this image of five royal terns (Thalasseus maximus) gazing out over the sea at Holly Beach, Louisiana, along the Gulf of Mexico. If you look closely beneath the terns on the far left, you can spot the tiny black legs of a much smaller bird—possibly a sanderling—hidden just beneath them.

Ich bin nicht sicher, ob es immer noch mein Lieblingsfoto ist, aber es ist das erste Foto, das ich genau geplant und vorbereitet habe. Ich bin die ganze Nacht wach geblieben, um den richtigen Zeitpunkt zu erwischen, und habe in dieser Nacht einige sehr coole Erfahrungen gemacht. Am Ende war es zu bewölkt, als dass man die Sonne so sehen könnte, wie ich es wollte, aber ich bin dennoch sehr glücklich mit dem Ergebnis.
