I could have just used another potion OR fired another "freeze all my enemies in sight" OR just ran another round earlier and ignored the broken staff I had deposited next to the exit…

I could have fired uppon the rat first, thus gaining shield and then run?

I could have used another scroll of retribution (think I had one of those left) or teleport?

I was going to clear #ShatteredPD with "faith is my armor" as a battlemage. No armor meant I had to find another way to reduce damage, so I had a high lvl ring of evasion and ring of elements and fired first shot of my staff for shield, then punched with the staff for recharging.

That worked out relatively well.

I had no ankhs left, but defeating Yog was easy.

Had 5+ health potions left when I returned to floor 1! Easy win!

And then I somehow got killed by a rat on the tile right next to the exit.

AAAAAARGH!

A variant on the "distracted boyfriend" meme. The boyfriend turns to look at a passing woman with snakes for hair and burning eyes, and is turned to stone. A statuette of the "demon egg" from the Manhattan Project, held apart by a screwdriver. Another statuette, this one of a horrible goose, is positioned so that it appears to be about to push the screwdriver away with its beak.
