Endlich tut mal jemand was baulich gegen rasende Radfahrer

This electric car from BYD has megawatt charging. That means it can dump more than 500 km into the battery in under 5 minutes. This isn't sci-fi. It's real and it exists now. This car also costs only $35k USD here in China.
The tour guide just said they're about to roll out 4,000 megawatt chargers here in China. My mind is being blown. We've got to catch up. But can we?

Those companies don't have to do anything. They don't have to have customers. They don't have to earn money.
All they need to do: look like they'll be worth MORE in the future than they are now.
That company that's looking for the pot of gold at the end of the AI-rainbow? It doesn't have to find a pot per year. IT ITSELF IS THE POT THAT'S BEING SOLD.
Speculation ruins capitalism wherever it's not carefully regulated. That's as true for food and medicine as it is for companies selling revolutions that didn't happen.
If they (company) stop being utterly hyped and stop growing fast, they die.
So of course they "have the next big thing", no matter how stupid it is. Not having ALL the revolutionary things simply isn't an option.
It doesn't have to make sense. It just has to look like they'd have something they could R&D the shit out off.

Do you like large language models so much that you want one hanging around your neck all the time, watching and listening to everything you encounter, sending info to a big company? No I thought not. But these guys are betting 100 million people will.
What could possibly go wrong?
There's a Wall Street journal article on this, which you can read for free here:
I'll quote a bit:
"OpenAI CEO Sam Altman gave his staff a preview Wednesday of the devices he is developing to build with former Apple designer Jony Ive, laying out plans to ship 100 million AI “companions” that he hopes will become a part of everyday life.
Altman told employees that they had “the chance to do the biggest thing we’ve ever done as a company here,” he said after announcing OpenAI’s plans to purchase Ive’s startup, named io, and give him an expansive creative and design role. He suggested the $6.5 billion acquisition has the potential to add $1 trillion in value to OpenAI, according to a recording reviewed by The Wall Street Journal.
[...]
Altman told OpenAI staff that stealth will be important for their ultimate success to avoid competitors copying the product before it’s ready.
[...]
"Humane, another startup made up of former Apple executives that Altman invested in, sold an “Ai Pin” that failed to catch on with consumers."
I hope this new thing fails badly. Together with the new US "big beautiful bill" banning all regulation of AI for the next 10 years, this is a recipe for disaster. Authoritarian rule with all of us monitored all the time by AI - yes, I can see why that would be popular in some quarters.

“The Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." — 1797 Treaty of Tripoli, unanimously ratified by the US Senate, signed by President Adams
Comments like Johnson’s are what happens when you ban books instead of reading them.

The other day, I was wearing a tshirt that said "fuck transphobia" (it still says that, but the point is it said it the other day) while in the checkout line at a grocery store.
The woman working the register appeared to be having a bad day, but was trying to be cheerful.
When I got to the front, she saw my shirt and she smiled and her eyes lit up. It looked like she was holding back tears.
A lot of people are scared right now, and need to know we are on their side.
I'm on your side.
