What is it with idiots hearing of toroidal props, that always get's them thinking "I know! I'll 3D print a prop and compare it to a bought one to learn if toroidal is any good!"?

1. different material with different density - your motor is moving different masses
2. 3D printing gives you rough sourfaces - meanwhile your traditional props have clean surfaces, because injection moulded
3. you'd need to compare geometries with similar properties - so same thrust at similar speed, while creating similar load for the motors

the internet is full of stupid people.

K1 dürfte am Tablet mal wieder die Maus-App spielen. Eines der Videos war eine Anleitung für ein #Boot mit Gummiband-Antrieb.

Jetzt habe ich einiges an Bauteilen rumliegen, aber bei so kleinen Wellen und Lagern sah es gerade Recht mau aus.

Also einen alternativen Antrieb verbaut!

Jetzt fährt das Boot nur bei voller Sonne, dafür dann ausdauernder - und im Gegensatz zur Anleitung hat es eine Ruderfinne die man auf einen festen Winkel stellen kann.

Ah, und in den Kommentaren wirft noch jemand ein dass man das Natrium dann natürlich in großen Mengen herstellen muss. Also auch wieder das gleiche Elektrolyse-Problem mit schnell degradierenden Materialien - nur im Gegensatz zur Wasserstoff-Herstellung kommt als "Abfall" auf der anderen Seite nicht Sauerstoff raus… sondern Chlor.

…das klingt schlimmer und schlimmer je mehr man darüber nachdenkt.

Flüssiges Natrium, bei über 100°C im Flugzeug klingt schon nicht so ideal. (Leichtmetalle sind ja manchmal etwas… reaktiv?)

Und von "ja, die Reaktionsprodukte sind scheiße, aber zersetzen sich gleich zu harmlosem Zeug" bin ich auch nicht völlig überzeugt.

Aber zumindest klingt es nach etwas was (im Gegensatz zu LiPo-Zellen) zumindest grundsätzlich als Interkontinentalflug-Tauglich denkbar wäre?
