Portugal had never placed an order to cancel. Their F16s are at the end of their lifetime. They were considering F35s, and now they are saying they might consider others if they eventually do get to replacing them

@georgetakei To be fair to the senior execs in the military-industrial complex, they were more interested in not paying personal income taxes than they were about what happens to America or even their own companies. Our system values selfishness and greed, so we promote the most selfish and greedy among us to positions of great power. We will all pay a price for this, and part of the price includes America losing its status as the leader of the free world.

Boing/Lockhead had that huge competition about who'd win this ridicilously large contract. Every branch of the US military would buy many of those universal fighters!
Lockhead won - but right afterwards it was decided to order less of those planes.
Instead more drones would be bought by the US. Who builds those? Well, Boing is the largest supplier. Who might have guessed?
