Recently introduced to the concept of "fan fiction" by a young colleague. I ended up reading a few out of curiosity & think I've found the holy grail of sex tips for men, honestly, written mostly by women & absolute filth. If you want to know what they really want, get reading.
like how I love to read about epic adventures and space battles, while I would hate nothing more than experiencing them
Yes, you might be surprised at how much erotic fan fiction involving male characters (especially, but not exclusively, gay male characters) is written by lesbians. I have no idea if that makes it a better or worse guide for things women want in bed.
(Not a reader or writer of fan fiction, but I used to have some friends who were prolific writers under various pseudonyms)
Yes. In addition, you're only seeing the fantasies of people who've felt strongly enough to write about them. Most women may not be interested in the fantasies portrayed in fanfic.

Ah, yes, it's all perfectly simple. There's
- What we do
- What we would do, given the chance
- What we fantasise about, but would never do
- What we want people to think we do
- What we want people to think we don't do
- What we want people to think we're willing to do
- What we want people to think we'd never do
- What we tell ourselves we'd never do, even if we had the opportunity
- What we tell ourselves we'd do if push came to shove
- What we tell ourselves we could do if we really wanted to
